It’s Cataract Awareness Month. Why Are We So excited?

Yes, we are excited!  There are only a few FDA-approved LenSx® bladeless refractive lasers in the United States, and one of them is right here, right now in Charleston. Here’s why this is so important:

  • Thanks to the laser, cataract surgery can now be bladeless.  The femtosecond laser technology that revolutionized LASIK vision correction is now revolutionizing cataract surgery, improving precision, safety and comfort.
  • This laser gives Dr. Solomon the ability to perform two surgical procedures during the same session…first, removing the cataract and then correcting astigmatism.  This is why it is described as “refractive” (which means that it corrects vision).  This ability may increase the likelihood that a patient with astigmatism will be able to see well…without glasses…after bladeless refractive laser cataract surgery.  If you have cataracts and astigmatism, you should be excited as we are!

In 5 to 10 years, all cataract procedures could be performed with a laser, but Dr. Solomon has brought the future to the southeast NOW, so it is available when YOU need it.
