Operation Sight: Dr. Kerry Solomon's Dedication to Restoring Vision and Changing Lives Through Free Cataract Surgery
Dr. Kerry Solomon co-founded Operation Sight with Dr. John Boatwright and Dr. Paul Herring – both ophthalmologists right here in Charleston, South Carolina. The team of doctors, eye care professionals, and volunteers involved in Operation Sight offer cataract surgery free of charge to qualifying individuals throughout the community who otherwise would not have the means to afford it. Learn more about Operation Sight and why it is so close to Dr. Solomon’s heart.
Dedication to Service
Together with Dr. Boatwright and Dr. Herring, Dr. Solomon and his wife, Cindi, founded Operation Sight in 2011 with the goal of serving South Carolinians who were in danger of losing their vision to cataracts but could not afford surgery. Although Medicare often covers cataract surgery for patients over 65, younger individuals can still develop the condition. For uninsured or low-income patients, cataract surgery can be cost-prohibitive, at the ultimate price of their vision.
Since its founding, Operation Sight has gained widespread support in the greater Charleston community, gaining backing from local philanthropists and community leaders. In 2014, a press release published by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery highlighted the addition of Operation Sight to a national network of charitable cataract surgery organizations.
